We talk a lot about room environment – Dark, quiet, peaceful, no distractions. But what about what baby sleeps ON? Baby’s mattress can go a long way towards healthy rest!
What to look for in terms of safety:
- Check that the mattress is firm. Mattresses that are too soft or worn down in any area could create a gap where a baby’s face could become stuck, causing a suffocation risk.
- The crib mattress must not be thicker than 15 cm (6 in).
- There must not be a gap of more than 3 cm (1 3/16 in) between the mattress and any part of the crib’s sides. Push the mattress firmly against the sides of the crib to test this.
The brand we love?
I am lucky enough to live in the same city as the Obasan factory outlet, and have had a full tour of their incredible inventory, including (most importantly!) their amazing crib mattresses. The mattresses are handmade in Ottawa (with retailers across North America!) and made with quality organic materials and completely chemical-free. They are breathable and moisture-wicking, helping to regulate baby’s temperature throughout the night. (Cooler is better for sleep!)
I was so thrilled to be introduced to this brand that I’ve now partnered up with Obasan and they are offering you Mamas an Organic Wool Moisture Pad Protector (worth more than $100!!) FREE with any purchase of an Obasan crib mattress! Purchase on their website and enter the code HAPPYSLEEP at checkout for your free mattress protector! (Be sure to add both the crib mattress and the mattress protector to your cart before applying the code, in order for the code to work!)
Sleep well, Happy Sleepers!
