QUESTIONS

We understand that trying to figure out your baby’s sleep can be overwhelming! We’re here to help!

Here are some of the most common questions we get from parents about the process of sleep coaching:

HOW IS THE HAPPY SLEEP COMPANY’S APPROACH UNIQUE?

We take an approach to sleep that examines the health of the entire family unit. Sleep is like air – we have to have it to thrive and survive. Lack of sleep can negatively impact a parent’s ability to function and to make safe and effective decisions, and can lead to a significant decline in mental health. Meanwhile, prioritizing sleep can allow increased capacity to be present and attentive to your child, which will foster a secure attachment. In a securely attached relationship, it is both the parent and child who feel joy in their relationship. Honoring and responding to your own needs will ultimately benefit your child as well. In partnering with a Registered Social Worker, we have developed and fine-tuned sleep coaching approaches and methodologies that focus holistically on baby’s sleep and the mental health of the entire family unit.

ARE YOUR SERVICES COVERED BY EXTENDED HEALTH BENEFITS?

We partner with Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist Kyla Renaud; her expertise and knowledge is incorporated into our sleep coaching programs. Her role includes thorough review and oversight of all of our programs, services, methodologies and philosophies, Consultant coaching regarding mental health strategies for parents, and the provision of mental health support guides available as part of all of our one-on-one programs for families.

If your extended health benefits cover Social Work and/or Psychotherapy, all or a portion of our two-week, one-one-one services may be covered by your insurance.  Every extended health benefits plan differs. It is the client’s responsibility to check with their individual insurance provider regarding coverage and claim procedures, to verify their eligibility to submit claims for reimbursement. Kyla is registered in the province of Ontario.

Also note that if your employer offers a “health flex spending account” this will often cover a portion or the total of our services – if your company offers this, we recommend you discuss the option with your Human Resources department.

Receipts for service are provided only after our two-week program is complete.

WHAT AGES DO YOU WORK WITH?

We work one-on-one with families whose children are 14 weeks of age all the way through to school age. We also have a Newborn Sleep Guide for parents who have just begun their journey and need some step-by-step guidance and advice.

HOW LONG BEFORE I’LL SEE RESULTS?

We work with families for two weeks, and see immense and amazing results in that time! We generally already see incredible progress within our first week of working together and then continue to fine-tune sleep and ensure you are feeling confident and comfortable with the way forward before we end our program together.

Remember, the key to success is consistency and working closely with your Consultant! We are incredibly committed to our clients and will be there for you every step of the way!

DO YOU GUARANTEE SUCCESS?

We have an incredibly high success rate, as long as you work closely with your Consultant and are committed to your sleep program for your little one. I have every confidence that your little one will be sleeping through the night and going down on their own for naps within our two weeks together. With that being said, we of course hold customer relationships and satisfaction in the highest regard and, if for some reason your child was not sleeping through the night in the two weeks, we would simply continue to work with you for several extra days (at no additional cost) to sort out lingering issues. Your child’s sleep success and your family’s satisfaction with your sleep program are my priority when I am working with you.

Again, the key to your sleep program is commitment to your little one’s sleep plan and working closely with your Sleep Consultant, and there should be no issue with them gaining amazing, lifelong, healthy sleep habits as a result of our two week program together.

IS THIS CRY IT OUT (CIO)?

Many clients ask us about “Cry it out” – this is not our approach. “Cry it out” is a method of sleep training that is also often referred to as “extinction,” and involves leaving your child alone until they fall asleep without support. Again, this is not our approach. It is very important to us as your sleep consultants, and to the entire process of your child successfully learning independent sleep, that you be there for your child to provide ongoing support, guidance, love and reassurance as they are learning.

It is also very important to understand, however, that – while our approach will not have you leaving your child to simply “figure out” independent sleep on their own – there will inevitably be tears involved when your child is learning any new skill, and learning healthy sleep habits is no exception. What is important is that we help our clients manage the protest that comes along with their child undergoing a big change and learning a new skill, so that they learn quickly with tons of love and consistency.

WHAT IF I’M NOT READY TO HAVE MY CHILD FALL ASLEEP INDEPENDENTLY, BUT WOULD STILL LIKE TO GET BETTER SLEEP AND ADVICE ON SCHEDULES?

Then our Sleep Guides are for you! We recognize that sleep coaching is not for everyone. But we also strongly believe that healthy sleep should be! Our Sleep Guides are meant for either parents who have already established independent sleep for their child and don’t feel they need “sleep coaching” but do have a lot of questions about scheduling nuances, or for parents who aren’t ready to work on independent sleep but still want advice on nap transitions, scheduling changes, etc.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIRING A SLEEP CONSULTANT AND JUST READING ABOUT BABY SLEEP ONLINE?

The support! Forget foraging through a hundred different online articles and social media accounts trying to figure out the right approach to sleep. We provide this to each of our clients, individually, with a plan specific to their child and two weeks of one-on-one, daily support. We learn about you and your child, we create a plan together, we walk you through it face-to-face, and then we are there for you every step of the way as you implement that plan and get great sleep. We communicate with you every day, reviewing sleep logs and offering advice, feedback, and answers to your questions. That is the key – getting answers to your questions and staying on track with the help of an expert who knows!
